TESTER/OBSERVER REQUIREMENTS:

Congratulations on making the decision to move beyond being a "basic" volunteer, and wanting to share your experience and expertise to help train other Therapy Teams to make a difference the way you do!

To be considered as a "candidate" for becoming a Therapy Dogs, Inc. Tester/Observer (T/O), here's what you need to do:

1.  Read over the material contained at:  Therapy Dogs, Inc. Tester/Observer Information.

2.  Then contact Therapy Dogs, Inc. directly.

3.  Next, you will need three (3) letters of recommendation from three (3) different people, to support your request. No, you can't use a family member to vouch that you're a "character."  Nice try though!  These letters should come from people who know you and your animal (like your vet), someone who has seen you "working" in a Therapy environment (like your own T/O), and someone (perhaps a friend) with similar "doggy experience," who can support your experience and abilities to interact with animals and people to become an effective Tester/Observer for Therapy Dogs, Inc.  Don't forget to have them include THEIR names, addresses and telephone numbers as well in their letters.

4.  Submit the original letters, not faxes or emails.  Remember to have a signature on each one from the author (including your own...yes they can be sealed.  But I made copies of mine, 'cause I'm the curious sort. ;)  ALL IN ONE PACKET (so nothing gets lost) to:

Therapy Dogs, Inc.
P.O. Box 5868
Cheyenne, WY 82003

The "process" takes about 6-8 weeks.  Keep up your "normal" Therapy visits and know that whatever happens, YOU make a difference every time you and your dog make the "rounds!"
